History 
The city of Aligarh was known earlier by the names of Kol or Koil. The word Kol also represents the entire district or region. In ancient days, the word KOL referred to a tribe/ caste. It is also famous for the place of battle of Ally Ghur which took place in between the British and the French. The early history of the city can be traced back to 12th century AD. One significant development that marks the history of Aligarh is foundation of Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. This college later metamorphosed into Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.

Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid is one of the most famous Mosque located in Aligarh. It was constructed in 1727 by former ruler of Aligarh, Sabit Khan. This masjid is also popularly known as Sir Syed Masjid.

Khereshwar Temple
Khereshwar Temple is one of the most famous temple which is situated in Tajpur Rasulpur village of Aligarh.

Aligarh Fort
Aligarh Fort is one of the most popular historical monument in Aligarh. The fort is also popularly known as Aligarh Quila, Baunasaur Quila or Ramgarh Quila. The fort was built in 1525 under Ibrahim Lodhi. The height of this fort is 32 ft and is located on the top of a hill with a steep ravine on the sides.

Teerthdham Mangalayatan
Teerthdham Mangalayatan is a most famous religious site which is located at a distance of 5 kms away from the city of Aligarh. It is a centre of education, social and religious activities. The complex of Teerthdham Mangalayatan is spread over an area of 64,750 square meters, which consistings of four Jain temples.

Hakim Karam Hussain Museum is a most popular museum located in Aligarh. The gallery features several sections illustrating historic collections and exhibitions of health issues.
