Chennai is a city which is located at Coromondal Coast of Bay of Bengal in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is often referred as the Detroit of India and the Gateway of South. This beautiful city is the fourth largest and one of the prosperous cities of India. It is the capital city of Tamil Nadu and was once called Madras. It is a fast paced metropolitan city in South. Being a major center of culture, administration and trade in South India, the city has a rich cultural heritage. It is the main centre of Tamil culture. The city of Chennai was previously known as Madras. The history of Chennai illustrates that the city is about 400 years old and is also the 36th metropolitan city all across the world. The historical past of the city begins from the ancient rulers which were there in South India through colonization to the development in the 20th century. The Kapaleeshwarar temple, the Pallava Port and the Parthasarathi Temple of the 7th century are the effervescent facts to prove that the Chennai city has been present since the time immemorial. In early days though, Chennai was a group of many villages, hovering among the paddy fields, outlined by palm trees. The city was ruled by all the well-known dynasties of South India such as the Pallavas, the Cholas, the Pandyas and the Vijaynagar kingdom. Apart fom this, When India got independence in 1947, the city was declared the capital of the Madras State, which was renamed as Tamil Nadu in 1969. In August 1996, the name of the city was changed from Madras to Chennai by the state government at the time, when many other cities also got renamed. With all this to back the city, it can be said that Chennai possesses an affluent historical legacy which provides an unfathomable magnificence to the city.

Places to visit
Marina Beach is one of the India's longest beach located in the city of Chennai. It is popular picnic spot and is famous for its long stretch of silver sands and blue sea. Marina Beach provides a clear view of sunrise and sunset. It has become a centre for activities like wind surfing, fishing, sun bathing, kit flying and beach volley ball.
Shree Parthasarathy Temple
Shree Parthasarathy temple is one of the oldest temple situated in Chennai. It was built by the Pallavas in the 8th century. The temple has incarnations of Lord Vishnu in his four forms namely Narasimha, Rama, Varaha and Krishna. The Sri Parthasarathy Temple also celebrates a floral festival from mid February to mid March.
VGP Golden Beach
VGP Golden Beach is one of the most beautiful and cleanest Beach located on the East Coast Road in Chennai. It is also the perfect place for morning walks, swims, and the best place where you can spend quality time with your loved ones.
Guindy Snake Park
Guindy Snake Park is also another tourist attraction in Chennai. The Park is home to as well as a breeding centre for diverse species of snakes, lizards, crocodiles and turtles. It has more than 30 species of Indian snakes like King Cobra, Indian Rock Python, Reticulated Python, Adders, Vipers, etc.
Government Museum is one of the oldest and largest museum located in Chennai. It is popularly known as Egmore Museum or the Madras Museum. It has the largest collection of Roman antiquities outside Europe and comprises several galleries under various sections like archaeology, anthropology, geology, botany, numismatics, contemporary art, zoology and children.
