Introduction 
Gwalior is a historical and major city which is located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The city is well-known for its ancient temples, beautiful palaces and alluring monuments. It is the tourist capital of Madhya Pradesh. Gwalior is best known for being the birthplace of the great musician, Tansen. The city is also popular for its rich cultural heritage and glorious history. The city has been called ‘pearl in the necklace of the forts of Hind. The star attraction of the city is Gwalior Fort which was the administrative centre of many North Indian dynasties. The rich historical past of the city is displayed through its beautiful attractions. The royal charm of Gwalior can be seen through its spectacular architecture. History 
The city of Gwalior was founded by the King Suraj Sen and named after the saint Gwalipa, who cured his leprosy. Gwalior’s history can be traced back to 8 AD when the chieftain Suraj Sen was stricken with leprosy. A great saint Gwalipa, lived on the hill-top where the Gwalior fort stands. King Suraj Sen who ruled over the region, approached the holy man for cure of his leprosy. The holy man gave him water from the Surajkund, a water tank and the king was cured. Suraj Kund is still in the fort. The king established a town here and in gratitude, named the town after the saint Gwalipa.

Tourism 
Gwalior is a most beautiful tourist destination in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The city boasts of some very important historical as well as cultural heritage sites. Some popular attractions of Gwalior include Phool Bagh, Suraj Kund, Hathi Pool, Man Mandir Palace and Jai Vilas Mahal. Apart from this, the city has numerous attractive places and sightseeing, which makes it an ideal tourist spot for travelers. The Tansen music festival organized every year in Gwalior is also a famous attraction. The culture and tradition of Gwalior make it a popular tourist attraction of India.

Places to visit 

Gwalior Fort
Gwalior Fort is one of the most famous historical monument located in Gwalior. The architecture of the fort is very unique. The fort is belived to have been establisted about 1,000 years ago by Raja Suraj Sen. The massive fort is popularly called the Gibraltar of India.

Gujari Mahal
Gujari Mahal is one of the palaces in Gwalior which has now been transformed into a museum. The palace was constructed during the 15th century by Raja Man Singh for his wife Mrignayani, a Gujar princess.

Suraj Kund
Suraj Kund is a major tourist attraction in Gwalior. It was constructed in 15th century. The surrounding of the place is quite attractive and amazing that make the travellers to explore and enjoy to the fullest. The sunrise and sunset here is quite enjoyable and pleasing.

Madhav National Park
Madhav National Park is one of the most popular national park located in Gwalior. It spreads over an area of 337 sq km. It is a well known wild life reserve which was set up in the year 1959. The Park has a wealth of predators like leopard, panthers and hyenas. Besides these, there are a variety of other animals like sambar, nilgai, chital, sloth bear, dhole and crocodiles.
