Introduction 
Satna is a beautiful city which is situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Satna District. It is the fastest emerging cities of Madhya Pradesh. Satna city is popularly known as The cement city of India. Satna is a border city of the state and is touched by the borders of the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is close to the ancient city of Bharut, which was known for its Buddhist culture. Archeological remains of the city are available not just in India but all over the world. Important tourist attractions near Satna include Khajuraho, Maihar and Chitrakoot. Satna is closest railway station to Khajuraho. It is famous all over the world for the medieval Hindu and Jain temples which have erotic sculptures. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is the most important tourist spot here.

History 
Satna falls in Baghelkhand region, which has seen the rule of many great dynasties and empires during ancient and medieval centuries. The most prominent and dominant ones were Kalacuri dynasty and Baghel Empire. These two empires left deep mark on this region, which is why their mention is absolutely pertinent here. Kalacuri dynasty was one of the glorious ancient Indian empires, while Baghel Empire (also known as Rewa kingdom) was one of the great indigenous empires of Madhya Pradesh state. In fact historians believe that Baghelkhand region partly derives its name from erstwhile Baghel Empire, which dominated and ruled this region from 14th century to 18th century. After 18th century Satna and entire Baghelkhand region fell into the hands of mighty British Empire, who by turn of 19th century had brought entire Indian subcontinent under its control.

Tourism 
Satna is a very nice tourist place situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It has some major religious tourism spots including, Chitrakoot and Maihar. Satna district is also proud to have an ancient city of Buddhist culture named 'Bharhut', whose archaeological remains are displayed in many museums in India and abroad. Tulsi museum at Ramvan, 16 km away from the city, has many unique artistic sculptures of ancient times found in this area. Lord Shiva Temple at Birsinghpur is also a famous and old temple in the region.

Places to visit 

Kandariya Mahadev Temple
Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temple in Satna. It is the largest, tallest and most beautiful Hindu Temple of the Khajuraho Group of Temples. This medieval marvel dates back to 1050 BC and was built by Raja Dhandadeva, a strong Chandela ruler.

Kaliadeh Palace
Kaliadeh Palace is a beautiful tourist destination which is located on an island in the river Kshipra. This palace has a Persian style of architecture and has been constructed in the year 1458 AD by the renowned Sultans of Mandu. This palace is one of the well known sights of Ujjain that represents the glorious past of the city.

Maihar Devi Temple
Maihar Devi is another famous place of pilgrimage in the Satna district. It is famous for Mas Sharda or Goddess Sharada or Goddess Saraswati. She is the Goddess of learning and she provides intelligence, wisdom and logic.

Chitrakoot Dham

Vishvanath and Nandi Temple
