Introduction 
Thrissur is a wonderful city which is located in the Indian state of Kerala. It is also the headquarters of the Thrissur district. The city is located in the central part of Kerala and is also renowned for its religious and cultural values. The city is considered as the hub of cultural, artistic and academic institutions. It is also popularly known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala and the Land of Poornams. The name of the city was derived from Tiru-Shiva-Peru which literally means the big town of Lord Shiva.The tranquil atmosphere of the city is something which offers great peace to mind. Apart from this, Thrissur is surrounded by lush green fields and provides various attractions to its visitors. The scenic charm and picturesque views of this majestic city will surely grab your attention and also make your holidays more memorable.

History 
The city of Thrissur was earlier known as Trichur. It is said that the city was founded by Lord Parasurama, the 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Besides these facts, Thrissur was ruled by various dynasties and their existence still can be found here. Thrissur was an important centre of Sanskrit learning during the supremacy of Brahminism after the decline of Buddhism and Jainism. Advaita was taught in Thrissur by Sankara Acharya who during his later period of life settled and died in this place. It was also declared as the capital of the Kochi kingdom for a very short period. The Shaktan Thampuran palace is taken under the Archeological Survey of India and is been renovated. Similarly the place around the Vadakkumnatha temple was earlier called as Thekkinkadu with full of tea plantations. But now it is converted into a cultural and commercial hub of Kerala.

Thrissur is one of the important Tourist Destination in Kerala which attracts tourist from neighbouring cities. It is a colorful land with people of varied customs, traditions, communities and groups. This city is filled with stunning ashrams, Churches, temples, gardens and lakes. There are many beautiful places to visit in Thrissur are Athirapilly Falls, Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple, Vadakkumnathan temple, Snehatheeram Beach, Vazhani Dam and many others.

Places to visit 

Athirapilly Falls
Athirapilly Falls is a popular picnic spot which is located at a distance of 60 kms from Thrissur. It is famous for its waterfalls. The picturesque views and tranquil atmosphere of this magnificent place are something which attracts your attentions and make you fall in love with its beauty.

Heritage Garden
Heritage Garden is a most beautiful garden located in the center of the Thrissur city. The peaceful environment of the place will give your great pleasure. There are many good numbers of Ayurveda and Siddha Schools of medicines.

Chamundeshwari Temple
Chamundeshwari Temple is also another tourist attraction in Thrissur. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. The Goddess Chamundi Devi is ornamented with 5 metals named as gold, lead, iron, copper and silver inside the temple.
